Do you know that a baby smiles 400 times a day? Children up to preschool age laugh about 300 times a day. As adults, we laugh an average of 15 times a day, if it is a especially good day.
In Quantum we say he who laughs often lives well. And it is not only us who say it. In the recent years, scientists have seen that laughter benefits us in many, many different ways. If you have read the article ‘Laughter is the Best Medicine’ by Gurujee, you already know that laughter helps ease pain, strengthens the immune system, and even burns calories and help reduce weight. But that is not all.
On March 10, 2011 BBC published a story entitled, “Laughing‘better than latest technology for leg ulcers'.” According to this story, hospitals and health clinics have been increasing using low-dose ultrasound for leg ulcers. But in a five year study conducted on 337 patients, a Leeds University team found that it does nothing to speed up recovery. But surprisingly, a good belly laugh can help heal leg ulcers by increasing the blood circulation in the area.
But laughter is not just a medicine for the body, it is a medicine for the mind as well. Researchers have a found that laughing helps sharpen our intuition, improves our memory and creativity. In 1994, Dr. Stephen Schmidt of Middle Tennessee State University told 38 psychology students read this sentence, ‘There are three ways a man can wear his hair, parted, unparted and departed.' He also told them to read a straight version of the same sentence, ‘Men can wear their hair with our without a part, unless they are bald.’ Guess which sentence the students remembered better? The first one, of course!
