Hazrat Imam Jafar Sadiq, once, asked his son, ‘How much money do you have, to spend?’ His son replied, ‘Around 40 dinar.’ Then, Imam Jafar said, ‘Donate all of it.’ Hearing that, his son exclaimed, ‘Father. Are you thinking straight? This is all we have, to take care of the family expenses. If we donate it all, then we won’t be left anything, even for a single day.’ Mr. Imam then said, ‘Don’t you know, like everything else, there’s a key to wealth as well? and that is charity! Just give all the money. And leave the rest to Allah. He will bless us.’

That’s exactly what happened. Within ten days of that, Jafar Sadiq and his son were blessed with 4000 dinar for a job!

Another time, Imam Rid’a asked his slave, ‘Have you spent something for the cause of Allah, today?’ They replied, ‘No. By Allah.’ So then, Imam Raida said, ‘Then how would Allah give us anything in return?’

In the Holy Quran, Allah said, in verse 39 of Surah Saba, ‘And whatever you spend in the way of Allah, He will recompense you with more. And He is the best of the providers.'

Similarly, in verse 39 of Surah Ar-Rum, it is said, ‘The usury which you give to increase the wealth of people, will not increase you in the sight of Allah. But the Zakat that you give to seek the countenance of Allah, shall be repaid to you by many times.’

There are many Hadith that says Zakat improves wealth.

Allah has made it obligatory to pay Zakat, to purify and increase your wealth.
